A photo of a bikini-clad woman wearing a red swimsuit was widely circulated in a number of states in Australia and abroad, prompting a number a police officers to ask questions about her identity.
The image, taken by a passer-by at a Sydney beach in 2013, prompted police to contact the woman, who said she had no idea it was a crime and was unaware of the seriousness of the offence.
Police confirmed that a woman wearing the bikini had been arrested in Queensland and charged with disorderly behaviour.
She was released on bail pending a trial.
A police spokeswoman said police had received a number from people across Australia who had noticed the photo on social media, and were in contact with the woman.
“She was aware of it, she was aware that she was photographed and she agreed to the photograph being used in the photos,” she said.
